With a new CEO on board, however, it looks like Mozilla’s position may be changing. At an internal Mozilla event in Portland today, the organization talked about the need to get its browser onto iOS. Apple has been very restrictive with regard to third-party browser engines on its platform. Current third-party iOS browsers like Chrome or Opera can only operate on iOS because they use Apple’s own JavaScript and rendering engines, for example — or, as in the case of Opera, by rendering sites on a server and then sending them to the device. It’s unclear how Mozilla plans to bring Firefox to iOS, but given that Apple isn’t likely to open up its platform for third-party browser engines, it’ll likely have to work with Apple’s technology. But as the company announced today, it is now working on its own container runtime, largely because it disagrees with Docker’s overall direction. Docker is an open platform for developers and sysadmins to build, ship, and run distributed applications. Consisting of Docker Engine, a portable, lightweight runtime and packaging tool, and Docker Hub, a cloud service for sharing applications and automating workflows, Docker enables apps to be quickly assembled from components and eliminates the friction between development, QA, and production environments. An application for a new Samsung phone with a model number that may belong to an unreleased device called the Galaxy A7 has just appeared on the Federal Communications Commission website (via Phone Arena). The application itself doesn't tell us much about the device, but it does provide some evidence that Samsung is likely to launch a new phone in its A-series line. We saw similar applications appear just days before Samsung officially unveiled both the Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A5 in October. What we can tell, however, is how large the phone will be. The FCC's listing says it will measure 150 mm x 75 mm, which hints the phone's screen will probably be larger than five inches diagonally. Microsoft has launched its first Lumia phone - the Lumia 535 - without the Nokia branding in India at a price of Rs 9,199. The phone will be available in the market from November 28. The new model is the first Lumia smartphone under Microsoft's own brand name. The company has released a few Lumia models since it bought Nokia's phone business this year, but those models still carried the Nokia brand.
